World Championship Winning Mast
In 2003, Seldén undertook the most thorough rig development plan to develop the ultimate OK mast on their state-of-the-art filament winding machine. The clever bit has been tracking the tube inertia changes both the Finn and Europe (of similar rigs to the OK) went through when they changed from alloy to carbon masts. By tracking the evolution of their bend characteristics, it gave a very clear route as to what would create a fast OK mast. Simple extrapolation of the right moment differences between the boats allowed us to determine the correct laminate. Working closely with Jim Hunt and North Sails, using the extensive knowledge of their Olympic Finn & Europe success, the mast/sail combination has proved the fastest in the World.
Improvements in 2005In 2005, the masts have been increasingly strengthened at deck and boom bracket and all the masts are supplied up to Class minimum weight.
