SELDÉN SUCCESS AT INTERNATIONAL 14 UK NATIONALS

30/09/2007 00:00:00

SELDÉNSeldén continued its long-running involvement in the International 14 class this year, developing and supplying our Series III carbon mast section to a number of top 14 sailors, including Rob Greenhaugh and Mike Lennon. Rob then went on to win the Prestigious Prince of Wales Trophy (the one-race National Championship) with Mike following him closely in sixth position.

Sailed in five to twenty knots of wind over a 26-mile course, Rob, with his crew (and brother) Pete were able to take first place in the final two laps and then went on to extend their lead to three minutes. An impressive feat, particularly as their new boat was only put together before the start of the event, leaving the team with little opportunity for training or tuning before the first race.

The mast section was manufactured in Gosport at Seldén’s carbon spar manufacturing facility. With a high-modulus laminate designed by our carbon engineering team utilising our in-house CNC-controlled filament winding machine, Seldén were able to provide the lightest mast section with the correct bend characteristics for the sailors. With PBO rigging, Rob’s rig fully rigged weighed 7.8 kg.

Rob commented ‘thanks for all your help with the boat. The boat is very, very fast and at present completely un-tuned, so I would expect to get a lot more performance out of it over the coming months.’
