Seldén Strike Gold in Beijing

31/10/2008 00:00:00

SeldénTwo teams sail to victory in Beijing using Seldén spars. The conditions for the event were difficult, as expected, making it impossible for any of the favourites to be guaranteed a medal.

In the Yngling class the British trio of Sarah Ayton, Sarah Webb and Pippa Wilson took gold with a 13-point lead over their nearest rivals. Seldén has worked closely with the girls over the past four years having supplied masts to Ayton and Webb when they sailed with Shirley Robertson.

‘When you want to win gold, you cannot afford to cut corners. All our equipment had to be the very best available, and the mast selection was one of the easiest decisions. Where else would you go but Selden?’ Sarah Ayton, Helm, Team GBR Yngling.

The girls used a custom Seldén spar supplied to their specification. During the past two seasons they have also used Seldén to secure victory at the 2007 Qingdao Test Regatta, the 2007 ISAF World Championship, the 2008 European Championship and the 2008 World Championship.

In the 470 class Elise Rechichi and Tessa Parkinson sailed a convincing series to win by 17 points using a Cumulus mast and Olympus boom section spars.

Seldén now offer 470 sailors a choice of two sections, through the use of an automated system of manufacturing sailors can expect both the Cumulus and ALTO to be produced with minimal variations to match the consistently high standards associated with all Seldén products. Both masts are supplied with the Seldén fully adjustable spreader system allowing for accurate and easy adjustment on the water.

The Seldén Olympus was designed specifically for the 470, the section is the maximum strength it can be within the class rules and is the stiffest available. The Olympus boom incorporates Seldén composite inboard and outboard end fittings and high load kicker eye minimising the weight without compromising on strength and functionality.
