New Contender Spars from Seldén

14/10/2010 00:00:00

Following the introduction of the Series 2 mast section and BC086 boom section in 2009, two new mast designs and a profile boom are now available from Seldén for the Contender class.

Series 2 has been designed to offer sailors the best relationship between fore/aft and sideways stiffness while also minimise drag through section size particularly in the taper. Two laminate specifications have been designed specifically for the Contender, SMC1 offers similar characteristics to existing products within the class while a stiffer development mast SMC2 is also currently in testing.

New to the class, Ben McGrane has used the SMC2 for two events this season recording a 2nd overall at Weston combined with a Wavelength sail and 3rd overall at Chew Valley with a new North Sails prototype. The stiffer mast is intended to give more power in the light winds and to assist downwind wiring in marginal conditions.

The BC086 boom gives an excellent compromise between weight and stiffness with minimum bend while sailing with maximum kicker achieved through the profiled section design and a laminate specification specific to the Contender.

Seldén Deck Hardware and Performance ropes have been used throughout Ben’s Chris Somner Dinghy Services supplied Contender, well worth checking out at the Inland Championships to be held at Rutland 30th-31st October.

Seldén Contender spars and new Contenders with Seldén Deck Hardware fit outs are now available through Chris Somner Dinghy Service (01202 736704).
