Sarah Norbury

Based in the Midlands, Sarah Norbury has been the leading female sailor in the Optimist Class for 3 years. In a class where there can be up to 500 sailors at the National Championships, it is no mean feat to retain 1st girl and no.2 overall in the UK rankings.
Sarah’s sailing career has enabled her to compete as part of Team GBR all over the World, from a Friendship Regatta in Tokyo in 2009 to the Optimist World Championships in New Zealand 2011. In between, she has competed for Team GBR in Germany,Italy,Poland,Spain,Belgium and the Netherlands.
Having completed a successful career in Optimists with the European Championships 2012 inItaly, at 15, Sarah Norbury has now moved into the 420.
In her first event, the 420 Nationals held in Torbay in August 2012, with stiff competition including Neil Marsden (sailing with Kirsty Unwin), Annabel Vose and a number of other experienced 18 year old sailors, Sarah was very pleased to be 15th overall.
Since the Nationals, Sarah has teamed up with Mari Davies as crew, who has recently moved out of the Topper National Squad, having sailed in the Topper World Championships in August 2012. She and Sarah have been working hard to get their processes right for the Inlands held at Burton in September 2012. Despite their inexperience as a team, they managed a very creditable 19th place.
Sarah said “Our boat speed is pretty good and we managed to round the first mark within the top ten several times over the weekend – which we were quite proud of in our first event together.”
Sarah and Mari are using a Selden Kappa Mast.

Tim Riley

Tim Riley and Luke Burywood won the 2013 RYA Youth Nationals in the 420 class. Tim is a well known youth sailor having a successful track record in Optimist and 420.
Tim started in the 420 class helming for Ed, his older brother. They helped Seldén with the development of the new Zeta section which was specifically designed for 420. Zeta is the ideal all-round section for 420. It is stiffer than Kappa allowing medium and heavier crews to power up early. However it is softer than Cumulus so is easy to de-power in stronger conditions.
Tim and Luke used a standard Zeta mast to win the 2013 Youth Nationals combined with an Olympus section boom.
Vince Horey
Vince has been racing at the top end of the dinghy scene for more than 20 years achieving much success both domestically and internationally. Most notable being wins in the Fireball class at the National and European Championships.
An undenyable passion for the sport, Vince can be found competing nearly every weekend in either the Fireball or Solo. As of 2012 Vince is also racing in the 505 class.
'I have always used Selden spars due to their reliability and the easy to use and replicate spreader adjustment which is critical in the Fireball Class. I always use the Cumulus section in the Fireball as I find it the most consistent mast across all wind ranges.
In the Solo I use the D section which is said to be the heavy weight mast, but with loads of rake I can hang on in there up wind and just let the boat go downwind with my lightweight advantage.'
